About The University of Buckingham

The University of Buckingham is one of the UK’s smallest universities and the only independent university to hold a Royal Charter. Staff come from over 25 countries, creating a distinctive and supportive work environment. The university emphasises personalised, student-centred learning and aims to further strengthen its teaching and research culture. This role offers the opportunity to shape future leaders within an institution where small-group learning is central to every programme.

The Role

As a Learning Development Academic Mentor, you will support Senior Leader Level 7 apprentices throughout their apprenticeship journey. You will ensure learners are effectively inducted, motivated, progressing well, and receiving timely feedback in line with apprenticeship standards and university expectations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting onboarding of new apprentices and ensuring eligibility requirements are met.

  • Contributing to induction activities and helping learners transition into their programme.

  • Monitoring learner engagement, progress, and achievement through regular reviews.

  • Providing high-quality personal, academic, and professional mentoring.

  • Delivering workshops, tutorials, and learning development activities.

  • Providing detailed, constructive feedback to help learners meet apprenticeship standards.

  • Ensuring compliance with internal governance and external regulatory expectations.

  • Collaborating with academic and professional services colleagues to support learner success.

  • Supporting academics in peer review and teaching development initiatives.

  • Enhancing apprentice experience, satisfaction, and employability outcomes.

  • Assisting the Faculty with strategic objectives and continuous improvement.

  • Contributing to efficient administration of apprenticeship programmes.

  • Representing the University at recruitment, marketing, outreach, and public engagement events.

  • Participating in visits to schools, community groups, employers, and other stakeholders.

Candidate Profile

  • Master’s and/or PhD in Business, Management, or Leadership-related subjects.

  • At least two years of industry experience in a related role.

  • Proven experience in learning development coaching or mentoring.
